This thesis ends with a summary and an evaluation of the achieved results.
Development of methodics for performance comparison of data warehouse systems
Ronovský, Jan ; Pavlíček, Antonín (advisor) ; Meixner, Jiří (referee)
This thesis focuses on developing methodics for performance comparison of data warehouse systems. Firstly, the thesis defines data warehouses in various development stages of organization BI and describes knowledge about data warehouses. Methodics developed in the thesis describes architecture of standardized data warehouse, data flow between areas of data warehouse and processes in data warehouse. Understanding of these concepts is crucial for assurance of methodics applicability. Methodics offer logical progression of steps, which start and include testing of data warehouse systems. The contribution of the thesis is in having guide, what needs to be done when organization must do while testing various systems for data warehouses. Also it describes how this testing should be done on middle level detail, which is the absolute minimum level of abstraction that can be done due to wide applicability of methodics. Methodics offers solution to the problem of performance comparison when organization need to answer question - Which data warehouse system should we use in our organization? However, methodics expects already some knowledge about data warehouse content.
Management of reporting in the banking sector
Hyblbauer, Jan ; Svatoš, Oleg (advisor) ; Bruckner, Tomáš (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on a proposal for a methodological framework of reporting management in the banking sector and identifying key weaknesses of the current state. Using the proposed methodology precedes weaknesses and proves it on practical example from the real environment. The main benefit of this work is design of a methodological framework that allows the organized management and control of the reporting. It also brings identification of main weaknesses of the current reporting and last but not least universal template for the report specification. The work consists of three parts. The first, theoretical, defines area of reporting in a banking institution. It includes all the terminology, characteristics and types of reports. The second part, analytical, examines the current weaknesses of reporting within the defined area. Provides an overview of three to six major weaknesses in a particular phase of a new report development based on the scientific literature and practical experience of the author of this work in the banking environment. The third and final section contains a draft concept of reporting management in the banking sector with avoidance of the identified weaknesses from the analytical part.
Integration of claim system into data warehouse of Česká pojišťovna
Řehák, Pavel ; Pour, Jan (advisor) ; Duroňová, Petra (referee)
The thesis deals with integration of claim system (APH) into DWH of Česká pojišťovna. Aim of the thesis is characteristic and introduction of all the activities that need to be done to make the claim system integrated. Main goal is to analyze source data, to propose logical model of individual DWH layers, to analyze and to design specific mappings and to test defined transformations. The thesis is divided into three logical parts. In the first part there is the general theoretical definition of BI/DWH. The second part presents methods, principles, tools and techniques used in BI/DWH department of Česká pojišťovna, there is also realized characteristic of claim system, and finally this part is about presentation of the basic characteristics of the project Integration of claim system into DWH of Česká pojišťovna. The last part of the thesis is devoted to integration of the claims into all layers of company´s DWH, this means that there is done an analysis of the source data, design of logical model, analysis and design of specific mappings and testing. Author of the thesis was personally involved in the project, because of the fact that he cooperated on the analytical part of the project. Author´s contribution consists in comprehensive elaboration of the subject of the thesis, but mainly in the presentation of analytical and other activities, which the author implemented by himself, or participated in them.
Analysis and Design Business Intelligence solutions for ATOZ group
Machaj, Maroš ; Pour, Jan (advisor) ; Horníček, Martin (referee)
The main objective of this work will be the analysis of BI solution for this company, which deals with the publication of professional journals and the organization of conferences. BI solution should be used by company management. In order to achieve the objective of this work it was necessary to contact the company with IT professionals and employees who have access to the IS company. It was also necessary to consult the requirements for BI solutions for a company with a higher-ranking employees of the company. Thanks to these consultations it was possible to create the skeleton for the analysis of the company and on these grounds the new key indicators were created. To these indicators then new dimensions were added as well. The practical part consists of two parts, namely the analysis of a specific BI solution for the company. The work will include a small sample of BI solution for BI benefits. This solution includes designing the data warehouse, ETL and pilot solution. The contribution of this work is to design BI for publishing (advertising) company. The company is quite specific, so another company for which it would be suitable as well, is difficult to find.
Analysis and design of a prototypical Business Intelligence solution for a chosen Company
Straka, Radim ; Pour, Jan (advisor) ; Klíma, Vladimír (referee)
The main purpose of this bachelor thesis is an analysis and design of a prototypical Business Intelligence solution for a company called KMPS, with a focus on a financial area. The solution is based on the complex analysis containing a general analysis of the company, requirements of the company and an analysis of source data. The application was created with a Self Service BI tool called Power Pivot. Since the company has not yet have established any similar system, the application is designed in accordance with needs of the company in a way that management and the economical department of the company can actively use the application afterwards. The thesis consists of two parts. The first theoretical part deals with general terms and definitions of a BI area. The second practical part describes all performed operations which led to the BI solution.
Data Warehouse Management and MWF Optimization
Matoušková, Barbora ; Maryška, Miloš (advisor) ; Faina, Michal (referee)
This thesis focuses on the data warehouse of an extensive bank intitution from its operational management point of view (for the main part). To grasp the fast overview of the data warehouse the thesis includes the description of its data architecture, transformation processes and the way of presenting data to its users. Besides that the description of systems used for both the business data and for the metadata purposses is also included in this thesis. The thesis also covers operational activities including the identification of weak areas and their improvements. Another part of the thesis is represented by the project of optimization of a scheduling mechanism (Master Workflow) for running transformation processes, that helps to minimalize the metadata load of the Teradata database system. The main goal of this thesis is to describe the environment of the data warehouse in an understandable way. It's critical to understand the environment for both, the operational management personnel and for developers, that can supply the warehouse with higher quality solutions and ease the deployment of new deliveries into the production environment. This goal is achieved by the description of the data warehouse (mainly the description of its data architecture, transformation processes, operational activities and tools used to deploy changes into the production environment). Another goal is to give a feedback on the operational activities from the operational personnel point of view. This helps identify weak spots and can lead to its elimination. The last goal is to improve the scheduling mechanism that controls and runs all transformation processes. This goal is achieved by a project. The thesis describes the starting state, implemented changes, final state and the consideration whether the project was successful or not. The thesis brings several contributions: easier understanding of the data warehouse and the way of managing ETL processes -- for the operational management personnel and developers, which can bring the improvement of new solutions. The possibility of elimination of weak areas in the operational activities. And thanks to the project described there are two changes -- standardization and the metadata load of Teradata decreased. My own contribution to this issue is, besides the useful introduction to the data warehouse, the identification of the weak areas, suggested improvements and also the project of optimization Master Workflow which took about 17 MD. The thesis is devided into chapters based on the topics described: introductory information, theoretical base, characteristics of the main systems, the description of the data warehouse, the description of operational activities including the identification of weak areas, and at the end there is the project of optimization of Master Workflow. In the last chapter there is the final conclusion of the entire thesis.
